Adding The 'Command & Conquer' Soundtrack

The Command & Conquer (Tiberian Dawn) audio files are in a format that cannot be read by Yuri's Revenge, so they must be converted. You do not need to have Command & Conquer installed to extract the audio files; it can be done directly from either Command & Conquer game CD.

There are 21 music themes in Command & Conquer. The audio files must be converted from AUD to WAV. XCC Mixer can perform the conversion in a two-step process that must be repeated for each audio file.

Creating the Command & Conquer Music Pack:

  1. Refer to the following table to perform the directions below. Be sure to name the music pack filenames exactly, or the game will not find them; and name the mix file exactly as well, or the YR Playlist Manager will not recognize that you have the Command & Conquer music pack installed.

  2. Insert either Command & Conquer CD into your CD drive. Using XCC Mixer, navigate to the CD's root directory. Open scores.mix. [Help]

  3. Use XCC Mixer to convert (not extract) the files listed in the 'Source File' column of the table to WAV. [Help]

  4. The files are now in WAV format, but they do not use the proper compression. They must be converted again. Use XCC Mixer to now convert the WAV files you just created to 22.050 kHz WAV IMA ADPCM format. [Help]

  5. Create a new MIX file, and name it ecachethemeTD.mix. Insert the 21 tracks listed in the table into this MIX. [Help]

  6. Ensure that the new MIX file you have created is in your Red Alert 2 folder so the game can find it.

  7. If you wish, you can now delete the loose audio files you've been working with to create this music pack.

  8. Enable the Tiberian Dawn soundtrack using the Playlist Manager. During the game, the Tiberian Dawn music will be available.
