Adding The 'Tiberian Sun' Soundtrack

The Tiberian Sun audio files are in a format that cannot be read by Yuri's Revenge, so they must be converted. You do not need to have Tiberian Sun installed to extract the audio files; it can be done directly from either of the Tiberian Sun game CDs.

There are 21 music themes in Tiberian Sun. The audio files must be converted from AUD to WAV. XCC Mixer can perform the conversion in a two-step process that must be repeated for each audio file.

Creating the Tiberian Sun Music Packs:

  1. Refer to the following tables to perform the directions below. Be sure to name the music pack filenames exactly, or the game will not find them; and name the mix files exactly as well, or the YR Playlist Manager will not recognize that you have the Tiberian Sun music packs installed.

    ecachethemeTS1.mix
    Track Title:Source File:Music Pack File:
    Approachapproach.audapproach.wav
    Defensedefense.auddefense.wav
    Dusk Hourduskhour.audduskhour.wav
    Flurryflurry.audflurry.wav
    Gloomgloom.audgloom.wav
    Heroismheroism.audheroism.wav
    Infraredinfrared.audinfrared.wav
    Intro Themeintro.audintro.wav
    Lone Trooplonetrop.audlonetrop.wav
    Mad Rapmadrap.audmadrap.wav

    ecachethemeTS2.mix
    Track Title:Source File:Music Pack File:
    Map Select Thememaps.audmaps.wav
    Mutantsmutants.audmutants.wav
    Nod Crushnodcrush.audnodcrush.wav
    Pharotekpharotek.audpharotek.wav
    Red Skyredsky.audredsky.wav
    Scoutscout.audscout.wav
    Ion Stormstorm.audstorm.wav
    Time Bombtimebomb.audtimebomb.wav
    Score Themescore.audtsscore.wav
    Valvesvalves1b.audvalves1b.wav
    What Lurkswhatlurk.audwhatlurk.wav

  2. Insert either Tiberian Sun CD into your CD drive. Using XCC Mixer, navigate to the CD's root directory. Open scores.mix. [Help]

  3. Use XCC Mixer to convert (not extract) the files listed in the 'Source File' column of the tables to WAV. You won't find the Intro or Map Select tracks here; you'll do that in the next step. [Help]

  4. Close scores.mix, and open Install\tibsun.mix>local.mix. Convert (not extract) intro.aud and maps.aud. [Help]

  5. The files are now in WAV format, but they do not use the proper compression. They must be converted again. Use XCC Mixer to now convert the WAV files you just created to 22.050 kHz WAV IMA ADPCM format. [Help]

  6. Rename the Score Theme file from score.wav to tsscore.wav.

  7. Create a new MIX file, name it ecachethemeTS1.mix, and insert the 10 tracks listed in the first table into this MIX. Then create another new MIX file, name it ecachethemeTS2.mix, and insert the 11 tracks listed in the second table into this MIX. (If you wish to put all the tracks into one single large MIX file, then name it ecachethemeTS.mix). [Help]

  8. Ensure that the new MIX files you have created are in your Red Alert 2 folder so the game can find them.

  9. If you wish, you can now delete the loose audio files you've been working with to create these music packs.

  10. Enable the Tiberian Sun soundtrack using the Playlist Manager. During the game, the Tiberian Sun music will be available.
